Welcome from the Head of school

Kingswear is a happy, caring, family school where childre learn in a stimulating and nurturing environmen

Welcome to Kingswear Primary School and thank you for your interest in our wonderful school. Over the last eight years our school has grown from under 30 to 64, from two classes to three. We primarily serve the Parish of Kingswear including Hillhead but also welcome children from Brixham, Dartmouth and Torbay. We are a small school and that’s what makes us great! We work closely with our parents and community to make this a family school.

Our most recent Ofsted Inspection graded us Good in all areas apart from pupil safety which was deemed Outstanding. Attainment in 2014 was Good across the FSU, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Progress was Outstanding, (44% of our cohort made three levels progress in Maths). We ensure that all our children achieve the basic skills in Reading, Writing and Maths and year on year our achievement shows above national expectation. Our inspector commented that "Reading was a particular strength of the school".

We are also committed to ensuring all our children recognise their place in Britain and the World. This drives our curriculum. In 2014 we ran two visits to London for Year 2 and Year 6, we even managed to meet Nick Clegg! We utilise our beautiful environment on a daily basis. We have a brand new playground, a fabulous school field with its own pavillion and a piece of farm land which we have converted into class gardens , and a camping area. We have a very strong outdoor philosophy.

We are really proud to lead Kingswear, it really is a very exciting and special place. You are always welcome to visit us and our children would be delighted to show you around.

Working for Us

EDUCATION SOUTH WEST

By working together the schools within ESW benefit from:-
  • a support network of like-minded colleagues who believe in taking responsibility for the outcomes of children from age 0 to 19 within the Trust;
  •  opportunities to share good practices and CPD opportunities;
  •  students who will be supported because of the closer working relationships between primary and secondary schools regardless of where a child attends a school;
  •  staff who benefit from the increased opportunities to share best practice at a primary and secondary level and across phases.

 These opportunities also provide an incentive to new staff to join one of the academies within the Trust. There are opportunities for the sharing of staff both within and across phases.

 Pension Scheme

As a contracted member of staff you will be automatically enrolled into either the Teachers’ Pension Scheme or the Local Government Pension Scheme (whichever is appropriate).  Further details can be found on the following websites:

Our catering is provided by ESW Catering Service.  Tasty and reasonably priced food is served in our Canteign for breakfast, break and lunch.  The meals are home-cooked, and where possible use produce from the school farm – Abbrook Farm.  In addition, drinks and snacks are available from the Snack Shack and the Sixth Form Common Room, with free tea and coffee for staff throughout the day in the Staffroom.

 Childcare Vouchers

We participate in the childcare voucher scheme, which provides tax benefits to working parents.

 Bike Scheme

Staff can save between 32% and 43% on the cost of a bike and cycling safety accessories under HMRC regulations.
